Our Story.

Welcome to Lost Mundaring and Surroundings Local History Museum — your gateway to the stories of the Shire of Mundaring! Founded in 2017 by local Owen Briffa, now the Museum Curator and recipient of the Voluntary Individual Contribution award at the 2021 WA Heritage Awards for his dedication to promoting and preserving Mundaring and Hills history, we are committed to gathering, preserving, and showcasing the rich heritage of our local area.

Curators Profile.

Owen Briffa is the passionate Museum Curator of the Lost Mundaring & Surroundings Local History Museum, a role he has embraced since founding the museum in 2017. With deep roots in the Shire of Mundaring, Owen has dedicated his time to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of the region.

Recognised for his commitment to local history,

 

Owen was honoured with the Voluntary Individual Contribution award at the 2021 WA Heritage Awards. This accolade reflects his tireless efforts to engage the community and foster a greater appreciation for Mundaring’s unique stories.

Owen sits on various Shire of Mundaring committees, including the Local Heritage Survey Review Working Group and the Cultural Advisory Group, where he actively contributes to preserving the region's cultural and historical integrity.

 

His approach to curation emphasises collaboration and inclusivity, encouraging local residents to share their personal histories and artifacts. He believes that every story contributes to the vibrant tapestry of the community's past.

Under his leadership, the museum has developed a variety of engaging exhibits, projects, and events that bring history to life for visitors of all ages. In addition to his curatorial work, Owen is an active participant in local heritage initiatives and frequently speaks at community events, inspiring others to connect with their history.
